Description

This phenotype determines the induction technique used per case.

Limitation

This collation relies on collation mapping completed at the MPOG Coordinating Center. This involves manual review of notes and is subject to human error.

Cases with Rapid Sequence Induction notes will automatically result 'Rapid Sequence Induction' regardless if mask induction technique was used

Data quality is limited to individual site documentation accuracy, completeness, and variable mapping, which is performed by each site, independently. MPOG, as the coordinating center, reviews data quality at each data upload and monthly via Data Diagnostics and Case Validation tools. This review, while thorough, may not contain all data elements relevant to this phenotype and thus should be carefully reviewed by the user.

Check result of Induction Type Notes. If Rapid sequence is returned then result, Rapid sequence induction. Else, proceed.
If Intramuscular is returned then result, Intramuscular. Else, proceed.
Did case return a value > 0 for Halogenated used or Nitrous used? If no, result IV induction. Else proceed.
Was a sedation medication administered via IV route prior to any valid halogenated/nitrous gas value? if yes. result IV induction. Else result, Mask induction and stop.
