Description

This phenotype determines if a case had an anesthesia encounter for placement of a peripheral nerve block without a surgical encounter.

Limitation

Data quality is limited to individual site documentation accuracy, completeness, and variable mapping, which is performed by each site, independently. MPOG, as the coordinating center, reviews data quality at each data upload and monthly via Data Diagnostics and Case Validation tools. This phenotype determines if the case had a peripheral nerve block or epidural placed without a surgical procedure.

Check 1. Does the case meet all of the following conditions? If yes, proceed. If not, result No and stop.

Anesthesia Technique General = No
Obstetric Anesthesia Technique = No
Endoscopy Procedure = No
Procedure Text contains the keyword '%block%'

Check 2. Does the case result any peripheral nerve block (PNB) (value_code > 0) or epidural placed (value_code = 2) If yes. proceed. If not, result No and stop.

Check 3. Does the case meet both of the following conditions. If no, proceed. If yes, result No and stop.

Peripheral Nerve Block > 0
Anesthesia Technique Neuraxial > 0

Check 4. Is Patient in Room Start NULL? If yes, result Yes and stop. If no, proceed.

Check 5. Does the case meet all of the following conditions. If yes, result Yes and stop. Else, result No.
