Description
Returns a single Surgical CPT (if available) per case. If there are multiple, takes the Sugical CPT with the highest base unit after crosswalk to anesthesiology CPT codes.
Limitation
Not all procedures are reported with CPT codes. Crosswalking to anesthesthesia CPT can create errors in interpretation. There exist errors in CPT reporting from individual sites. Selecting a single surgical CPT can cause errors in interpretation as cases can contain multiple surgical CPTs per case.
Data quality is limited to individual site documentation accuracy, completeness, and variable mapping, which is performed by each site, independently.
MPOG, as the coordinating center, reviews data quality at each data upload and monthly via Data Diagnostics and Case Validation tools. This review,
while thorough, may not contain all data elements relevant to this phenotype and thus should be carefully reviewed by the user.

Logic
Gathers all Surgical CPT for each operative case. Crosswalks all Surgical CPTs to Anesthesiology CPTs. Selects the Surgical CPT that correlates with the highest base unit crosswalked to anesthesiology. Ties are selected in a non-deterministic manner.
