Description

Determines if the propofol infusion was a meaningful part of the anesthesia technique for the case. Includes both a dose-based requirement of at least 40 mcg/kg/min or equivalent and a time-based requirement of at least 50% of case duration.

This does not imply a Total Intravenous Anesthetic Technique was used.

Doses greater than 300 mcg/kg/min are not considered are not considered valid for this phenotype.

Limitation

Only examines propofol charted in mcg/kg/min

Other units are considered non-valid and not used. A propofol infusion must be documented in mcg/kg/min to be counted.

Requires propofol to be administered between 40 and 300 mcg/kg/min.

Total duration of infusion must be at least 50% of Case Duration (mins)

Does NOT imply the absence of volatile anesthetic or nitrous oxide.

Does NOT imply a general anesthetic was employed.

Data quality is limited to individual site documentation accuracy, completeness, and variable mapping, which is performed by each site, independently. MPOG, as the coordinating center, reviews data quality at each data upload and monthly via Data Diagnostics and Case Validation tools. This review, while thorough, may not contain all data elements relevant to this phenotype and thus should be carefully reviewed by the user.

2. Obtain Case Duration (in minutes)

3. Compare propofol infusion duration to case duration.

If the propofol infusion (minutes) is documented for at least 50% of case duration (minutes) return 1 else return 0
