Description

This phenotype returns the number of attempts completed for successful intubation per case. One case can have multiple intubation attempts (rows) as this phenotype returns all text from AIMS variables mapped to concepts within an MPOG concept subset (see logic).

Limitation

Driven by MPOG airway concepts. Unable to detect provider free-text entries outside of the concept subset documenting an airway view.

Data quality is limited to individual site documentation accuracy, completeness, and variable mapping, which is performed by each site, independently. MPOG, as the coordinating center, reviews data quality at each data upload and monthly via Data Diagnostics and Case Validation tools. This review, while thorough, may not contain all data elements relevant to this phenotype and thus should be carefully reviewed by the user.

From intraop notes and note details, this phenotype collects all of the text from the below concepts and returns them as text. If value is associated with a note detail, it must have an airway parent note concept to be included:

Parent Airway Concepts include
- 50117 Intubation - ETT Placed
- 50074 Airway Type
- 50695 Categorized Note - Intubation
- 50209 Airway - Laryngeal Mask Airway placement note
- 50141 Airway - Laryngeal Mask airway type

These values are then used in additional airway phenotypes including Airway Number of Attempts. One case can return multiple values.
