Step 1. Was case classified as valid case using the Is Case Valid phenotype? If No, mark No. If Yes, proceed to step 2.
Step 2. Was case classified as valid case using the Procedure Type: Intubation Only phenotype? If Yes, mark No. If No, proceed to step 3.
Step 3. Check if the case matches its Primary Surgical CPT with the list of CPT codes below. If yes, return 1. If no, proceed to step 4.
- Anesthesia CPT: 01990 (Do not use if predicted)
- Surgical CPT: 32850, 33930, 33940, 44132, 47133, 48550, 50300
Step 4. Check to see if the case is listed as an ASA 6. If Yes, return 1. If no, return proceed to step 5.
Step 5. Check to see if the case has a date of death. If no date of death, proceed to step 6.
- If the date of death is prior to procedure, return 1.
- If the date of death is after procedure, return 0.
Step 6. Check for value code 1 cases, if ASA is <6, set the value to no. If ASA = 6 proeed to step 7.
Step 7.Does the cases have ICD-10 code G93.82% dated either the same day or before anesthesia start? If yes, return yes. If no, proceed to step 8.
Step 8. Check for the procedure text expor, living, bone for cases that area ASA 6. However, exclude cases that contain the procedure text procur, recover, organ, donation, donar, heart, liver, lung, kidney.
Step 9. For no cases and cases without a value, check if the procedure text contains the text procur but not the text explor, living, bone, or oscopy. Set the case to Yes. Everything without a value set to No.
