This phenotype determines whether a case had a Knee Replacement procedure using logic based upon a combination of Anesthesia CPT codes and procedure text.

Limitation

May include cancelled cases.

Relies on accurate procedure text documentation, anesthesia, and surgical CPT codes.

Data quality is limited to individual site documentation accuracy, completeness, and variable mapping, which is performed by each site, independently. MPOG, as the coordinating center, reviews data quality at each data upload and monthly via Data Diagnostics and Case Validation tools. This review, while thorough, may not contain all data elements relevant to this phenotype and thus should be carefully reviewed by the user.

Step 1. Was case classified as valid case using the Is Case Valid phenotype. If No, mark No. If Yes, proceed to step 2.

Step 2. Was case classified as valid case using the Procedure Type: Intubation Only phenotype. If Yes, mark No. If No, proceed to step 3.

Step 3. Check if the case matches its Primary CPT with the list of CPT codes below. If yes, proceed to step 6. If no, procedure to step 4.

Surgical CPT: 27445, 27447

Step 4. Does the case have the following procedure text? If no, mark no. If yes, proceed to step 5.

"Knee" and the text "arthroplasty" OR "replacement"

Step 5. Does the case have the following procedure text? If yes, mark no. If yes, proceed to step 6.

Amputation, Elbow, Hip, Neck, Resection, explant, spacer, nailing, femoral, exchange, I&D, I_&_D.

Step 6. Does the case have only the following specific text? If yes mark "Knee Arthorplasty Without Another Procedure", If no, proceed to step 7.

Step 7. Does the predicted Anesthesia CPT = 01400 or 01402? If so, proceed to step 10. If no, proceed to step 8.

Step 8. Does the case contain CPT codes other the ones listed below? If Yes, mark "Knee Arthroplasty plus another procedure." If no, proceed to step 9.

Surgical CPT: 27445, 27447

Step 9. Using the Procedure Type: Cardiac phenotype, was the value code 1-4? If yes, return "Knee Arthroplasty plus Another Procedure." If no, check Procedure Type: Endoscopy if the value code is 1 or 2. If yes, return "Knee Arthroplasty plus Another Procedure." If no, check Procedure Procedure Type: Middle Ear Procedures if the value code is 1. If yes, return "Knee Arthroplasty plus Another Procedure." If no, proceed to step 10.
